Psalm 121 is one of those psalms of assurance and hope. There is even a popular worship song of it.
As I read it, some phrases caught my attention, so i decided to use my Strong's bible study to better understand the original words and thought concepts that were translated and interpreted into what we now have as Psalm 121.
Ps 121
“I will lift up my eyes”
Eyes – My outlook, awareness, focus, knowledge, your source of intention, inspiration.
Lift up – Extol, hold up, offer up, forgive, marry, magnify
“Where my help comes from”
Where – Identifying the source of one's help
Help – Much needed aid; the offerer of the much-needed aid, support, or assistance.
“My help comes from Yahweh who made”
Yahweh – The proper name of God. The Self-Existent or Eternal. Basically, the embodiment of the most Supreme in every conceivable and inconceivable way imaginable.
Made – Creating is synonymous with who He is. He is a Creator.
“Made heaven and earth"
Everything and anything conceived (past, present, future) with our understanding or awareness of life and everything existing was and is forged by Him
“He will not allow thy foot to be moved"
Will not allow – He is the appointer of life’s occurrence. The distributer of the appointment of events and occurrences in one's life. He permits things that occur.
Thy foot – Your path of trajectory, your destiny
Be moved – to waiver or be yoked. Weighted with a beam.
“He who keeps you will not slumber"
To keep – To hedge round about, protect, preserve, reserve, save
Not slumber – not be drowsy concerning you, or uncertain regarding his intent towards you.
“My Keeper, Yahweh is my Shade"
Shade – A covering of defense and protection
“The sun shall not smith thee by day nor the moon by night"
Sun – A rising embattlement faced openly
Strike – Beat, wound, injure, punish, slaughter, kill
Moon – Stealth, shrouded campaign against you. Also includes prevailing limitations, narrowness and even incumbent disabilities that are afflicting. A stronghold of this.
Night – Secret or private reality. Figuratively, it also means a period of adversity.
“Yahweh shall preserve you from all evil"
Shall preserve – To watch over, guard, protect, attend to, take heed of
From all – Altogether, whatsoever, entirety of
Evil – afflictions, calamity, distress, grief, mischief, hurt, ill etc, both natural and moral.
“'Yahweh shall preserve your going out and coming in, even from this forth forevermore"
Going out – Your direction, anything and everything in proximity to you
Coming in – anything being applied to you, or besieging or befalling you, anything being brought forth on you, endowed on or pronounced over you
From this forth forevermore - Henceforth or starting from now into antiquity or futurity.
With this elaborated amplification of the scripture, it draws more attention to promise of protection and preserving by God, and makes this scripture come alive for me to hold on desperately to the hope it offers.
