Giving Thanks in Everything
On July 31st, Brandon Marshall, the wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins gave a press conference announcing that he had BPD - Borderline Personality Disorder. The symptoms of this diagnosis includes instability in mood, unstable self-image and identity which could often lead to self loathing, and periods of disassociation. In his own words, he describes how in spite of his dream home and cars, he hasn't enjoyed it. And his career has been plagued with self damaging choices as a result of this disorder.
The press conference was to announce that he is seeking treatment, and is willing to bring awareness to this disorder.
As I read this, I couldnt help but wonder how many people have viewed his life and wished they were in his shoes. The grass always looks greener on the other side. Here's a young man with a multimillion dollar income, and seemingly having everything, and yet was plagued by some disorder that seemingly sabotaged his well being and happiness.
That's why in everything we need to give thanks to God. We may not feel we have the wealth, privilege or opportunities of the next person, but you have no idea what demons that person is fighting. Be grateful to God for the lane he has you on. Be your best, and enjoy the most life has for you. It is a waste of time envying someone else, not knowing what could be in their closet.
