Jesus announced his ministry by quoting this scripture. This was what he was born to do on the earth. And he in return has commissioned us to go out and do the same.
THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON US: The Ruach (Spirit/ Breath) of God is upon (overshadowed on/hanging over upon us)
ANOINTED US: Oil poured on us to consecrate or set us apart for a divine mission.
TO PROCLAIM: To announce, to invite, to mention,
LIBERTY OF THE CAPTIVES: Captives being those who have become taken. Liberty is available to them now.
SIGHT TO THE BLIND: Literally and figuratively.
LIBERTY TO THE OPPRESSED: Bringing freedom and relief to the burdened and weighed down.
PROCLAIM THE YEAR OF THE LORDS FAVOR: Broadcasting and making it known that the time of God's favor had arrived, because there would be a time when it would come to an end.
