It is 2022, and as time progresses, things we took for granted we begin to identify and explain.
I was watching TV and I heard there are some new dating terms. As a Social Psychologist, I figured I should share.
GHOSTING - I think everyone should know this already. "Ghosting" is when you are vibing or kicking it with someone, and they just vanish. No return calls, no return texts, no response on social media. They literally turned into a ghost and vanished. You've been ghosted.
BENCHING - This is when you keep someone on the sideline. You're not ready to commit to them, or you don't want to go further. So you keep them on the sideline. You don't get rid of them, and neither do you invest in them.
BREADCRUMBING - This is when you lead someone on but are not really ready. So you basically give false hopes and flirt with the person because having them is better than zero, yet you know you will not go there with the person. You are breadcrumbing the person.
GROUNDHOGGING - For those who don't understand the term. The Groundhog is a rodent that we use to predict the advent of the season. If it comes out at a certain time, it means spring would be early or late. Modern-day folklore, I know, yet it refers to doing the same thing and expecting different results. In dating, it is going after the same kind of people or doing the same thing, yet somehow expecting different results. You're groundhogging yourself.
CATFISHING - It is when someone uses fake names, fake pictures, etc to represent themselves online. It can even be a man faking to be a woman (yahoo boys often catfish their victims).
KITTENFISHING - This is less than catfishing. So you use your real picture, but it is from 5 years ago! Your weight is different, and you look older and less cute now, yet you use a picture of you from the past to represent you now. This is very common with online dating. You meet the person, and they are older....more weary-looking, and worn out than you were expecting. lol.
ORBITING - Think of the earth orbiting around the sun. In dating, orbiting is when your ex somehow seems to hover around harmlessly. They harmlessly like your pics, they seem to be on the horizon in social events, and they follow you on social media trying to be harmless in the background. Somehow they always seem to be harmlessly around. "Why are you around?? You are an ex, move on! Stop orbiting me!"
ZOMBIE-ING - This is too funny. Like a zombie from the grave, this is when someone you were dating shows back up from the dead. They may have ghosted you, or the relationship died. Then they show up in your world and act as if the relationship never ended or they never ghosted you. They are zombies! You cant date a zombie!
If you have any more terms, comment below with it
