“So
I, Yahweh, will assign him a portion among a great
multitude, and he will triumph and divide the spoils of victory
with his mighty ones all because he poured out his life-blood
to death. He was counted among the worst of sinners,
yet he carried sin’s burden for
many and
intercedes for those who are rebels” - (Is 53:12)
Key
points:
Became
akin to the “worst of sinners”: To count among, be numbered among, be reckoned
with. He was constituted as….identified with and became like.
Poured
out his soul unto death: He stripped himself bare of everything that defined
him and gave himself unto death.
Carried
sin’s burden: He adopted and took ownership of the grievances of offences,
including the punishment
Intercedes
for rebels: Beg on behalf of, passionately and urgently seek an audience for
someone. Rebels = Those who do not measure up to expectation, deviant, fallen
off into amorality.
Divide
the spoil with the mighty ones: He lavishes the spoils (the victories from
warfares) with those who overcome
Personal
paraphrase and transliteration of Isaiah 53:12
“…….he
(Jesus), made the ultimate sacrifice and gave up his entire worthiness and took
ownership of the multiple offences and violations that plagued us. Including
the punishment we rightfully deserved. He became our advocate, begging and
actively speaking on behalf of us who didn’t and couldn’t measure up; the ones long
condemned. Yet he champions for us, lavishing us with the wealth of the spoils
of warfare as we overcome through him”
