(l-r) James K. Zimmerman, Vocalese Pioneer Jon Hendricks, Vocalese Pioneer Eddie Jefferson, and George V. Johnson . |
Bebop, a.k.a, Modern Jazz changed jazz history under the leadership of Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie. Vocalese, the practice of composing lyrics for established jazz recordings, was pioneered first by Eddie Jefferson, but brought to public attention by King Pleasure with Moody's Mood for Love. Jon Hendrickstook the concept to the next level writing for and performing with the most sensational jazz vocal trio, Lambert, Hendricks and Ross. The concert brings the two concepts together with an incredible quintet of the Washington area's most incredible musicians and two stellar vocalists who have spent personal time with the two pioneers. George V. Johnson studied and traveled with Eddie Jefferson;James Zimmerman has known, promoted and documented the legacy Jon Hendricks for over 25 years.
