When Kings go off to war.......

The hardest point to face in one's life is the moment of frailty. That's why David's encounter with Bathsheba is one to ponder on. We will all have moments when we are on top of the world, and we transition into having moments we come face to face with our private trials. A look at David's experience, the moment that led to his Bathsheba encounter informs us on some truths to digest.

In the springtime of the year, the season when most kings took their soldiers out to fight, David stayed in Jerusalem and sent Joab out as general in charge of David’s men and the whole army of Israel. They destroyed the Ammonites and put the city of Rabbah under siege. Early one evening, David rose from his bed and was strolling on the palace roof when he saw a woman bathing on a roof below his. She was very beautiful. – 2  Sam 11:1-2

Springtime: Signifies a time of response – to one's purpose, to the outcry, to the pressures, travails, or signs of the time. It is the answer to the gnawing void. Every season requires an appropriate response in correlation. The wrong response in the right season can be the birthing of entanglements and contradictions.

(Question to self: Do you know what season you are in. Identify it)

Kings out to fight: In the appointed season, Kings respond accordingly. In springtime, they head off to war. Who are you, what season are you in, and the required response in said season?

(Question to self: What is the directly corresponding response I need to have for this season?)

David sent Joab: He chose to have someone else do what he was supposed to do. With the call and purpose on your life, are you delegating someone to step in and perform what you should be? Your purpose and destiny have a call on you that requires a response.

(Question to self: What responsibility of mine am I passing off to someone else for whatever reason?)

Saw a woman bathing: David was a sensual man. The one trigger he always had to respond to was suddenly strategically positioned within view the moment he placed himself out of the timing of God. Stay in tune with the Spirit, and evade the weaknesses you’re enslaved to from having entrance and influence in your life. You don’t have to run from your vulnerabilities you feel powerless to battle and win, rather align with the Spirit’s move, and it will position you one step ahead.

(Points to ponder: Step out of God's timing, and you place yourself in a susceptible position. Stay in tune with his move and flow, and even your biggest fears, frailties, etc would be one step behind). Rom 8:14 being led as a son; John 3:8 undefined and unpredictable progress.

She was beautiful: The allure of one’s weakness being turned up to full wattage to distract will always win. Our carnal appetites will never come face to face with its desired meal, and be modest. It will always be ravenous towards it. The battle is already over and ended in defeat once one positions oneself to dialogue with our greatest allure operating in full wattage. Eve tried to have a conversation with the serpent in front of the beautiful fruit, but she failed. Jesus in a similar situation did not indulge or engage in conversation; he simply responded back with “It is written”.

(Question to self: What conversations have you engaged in that already mark the end? How do you navigate engaging in a potential "fall conversation" when it presents itself? The last resort is What are your go-to responses?) It is okay to know you are a slave to your lust, whatever it is.
